Sam Fender confirms he has finished his new album

Sam Fender has teased new music and confirmed in a social media post that he has finished and “mastered” his new album.

The singer has finished work on his latest effort with input from The War On Drugs’ Adam Granduciel, announcing the update on Instagram with a series of photos and videos from behind the scenes and some hinting at the record’s influences.

The post was captioned “mastered x” and accompanied by photos of Fender playing his guitar, the group in the recording studio, a screenshot of Tom Petty’s ‘Love Is A Long Road’ on Spotify, live footage of Fender on stage, and Granduciel playing keyboards next to other musicians.

This update follows a previous Stories upload showing a teaser of one of the musician’s new songs. Fender first revealed he would be working with Granduciel earlier this year, adding that his “best mate” Brooke Bentham would be an integral part of the album.

Revealing Granduciel’s involvement, Fender shared a clip of them in the studio together alongside his team, soundtracked to another new song snippet that hinted at a continuation of the singer’s anthemic, upbeat sound.

The new album will follow 2021’s Seventeen Going Under, which he previously told Sky Arts he “rushed” to release. For the latest album, he realised they were falling into the same habits but quickly changed their course of action. “[For] the third one we started rushing and I thought, ‘No, we have got to take the time,'” he said.

He also explained the delay had been caused by their need to take their time and make something great rather than jump to get it out as soon as possible. He said: “We have been recording and recording and making loads of stuff but it got to the point where I thought, ‘We don’t need to get this out yet. We need to get it right.'”

Judging by these comments and the teasers shared on social media, it is clear Fender is gearing up to release something bigger and better than his previous albums, and he seems to consistently have the backing of all major names in the industry in doing so.

For instance, Dire Strait’s Mark Knopfler and AC/DC’s Brian Johnson previously told Far Out they believe Fender “is just going to be huge,” explaining how Fender’s new album was “halted” because he is “restless” and “always looking for something.”

Although a title and release date have yet to be confirmed, Fender’s latest effort will undoubtedly match—if not surpass—his previous efforts, with any last wait providing a reminder that patience is a merely virtue.
