Sam Fender announces new stadium dates in London and Newcastle

As Sam Fender continues to gear up to release his long-awaited third album, People Watching, the singer-songwriter has added three massive headline stadium shows to his schedule for next summer.

The ‘Seventeen Going Under’ artist will play at the London Stadium on Friday, June 6th. This will be his biggest headline show to date, with a 75,000 capacity, and his first stadium headline outside his home of Newcastle. He will then return to the North East for two hometown shows at St. James’ Park in Newcastle on Thursday, 12th, and Saturday, June 14th.

The pair of shows will be the third and fourth time Fender, a North Shields native, has performed in the iconic stadium situated in the heart of Newcastle. He previously sold out two shows there in 2023. These will see him surpass British Invasion legends The Rolling Stones, who have played there on three occasions before.

CMAT, who is supporting Fender across Europe in March next year, will support all three shows in the summer. Significantly, The War on Drugs, a group among his key influences, with frontman Adam Granduciel helping bring the new album to life, will appear on June 6th and June 14th.

Fans who have pre-ordered People Watching, or those who do from Fender’s store by 10am on November 25th, will receive early access to tickets from 9:30am on November 26th. All remaining tickets go on sale at the same time on November 29th.

Furthermore, £1 from every ticket sold will be donated to selected cultural organisations, such as Music Venue Trust, Youth Music and Sunday For Sammy, to support the arts in the North East.

What do we know so far about ‘People Watching’?

Last week, Fender released the title track and first single from the new album. The new song is a five-minute anthem and was written in honour of his late friend Annie Orwin; it tells the story of him visiting her in a care home.

People Watching is set for a release on February 21st, 2025, and it was recorded in London and Los Angeles last year, with Fender and bandmates Dean Thompson and Joe Atkinson sharing production duties. Fittingly, the album also features the talent of The War on Drugs leader Granduciel.

The upcoming Fender album is described as “his next steps forward”. It promises to to deliver “colourful stories and observations of everyday characters living their everyday, but often extraordinary, lives.”

Fender’s third effort is the follow-up to 2021’s widely celebrated UK number one, Seventeen Going Under. Previously speaking to Sky Arts, the rocker conceded that he “rushed” the last record. That meant that when he realised he was were falling into the same habits, they changed their approach. “[For] the third one we started rushing and I thought, ‘No, we have got to take the time,’” he said.
