Sailing forward: Keith Urban announces yacht rock album
Keith Urban has announced the release of his 13th studio album, a collection of his favourite yacht rock songs.
The country musician took to social media to announce the forthcoming release of Flow State, slated for a June 12th release.
The new album hasn’t just come out of thin air; Urban shared that he has been working on the new music for quite some time.
He wrote, “Flow State started as a fun little project and somehow turned into a full-fledged album. It features 10 covers of some of my all-time favorite yacht rock songs.”
Urban also nodded towards some iconic collaborations with recognisable names like “John Mayer and Little Big Town, PLUS one original track, ‘We Go Back’, with the legendary Michael McDonald.”
The original song, ‘We Go Back’, is now available to stream, along with ‘Summer Breeze’, a cover of the 1972 Seals and Crofts classic.
Though most of the covers are backward-facing by nature, Urban has shared that the project is a reaction to our current political moment.
“The origins of this kind of music was, in certain ways, a reaction and an antidote to the stresses of the times,” Urban explained.
He added, “Its sole mission (and soul mission) is unchanged…to bring us together and remind us that life is happening NOW — the eternal now — and we have far more in common than not.”
Urban released his last album, High, in 2024. Last September, Urban and Nicole Kidman announced their divorce. The pair had been married for almost two decades, having originally tied the knot back in June 2006.
