Sabrina Carpenter slams “evil and disgusting” White House following the use of her song ‘Juno’

Sabrina Carpenter has responded to the White House’s use of her song ‘Juno’ to soundtrack a social media video of ICE agents.

On Monday, the official White House accounts posted a short montage clip of masked ICE agents carrying out arrests. Since the start of Donald Trump’s second presidency, the presence of ICE has increased in America as the president regularly shares videos like this, celebrating the arrests.

The latest video was soundtracked by ‘Juno’ from Carpenter’s 2024 album, Short ‘n’ Sweet, using a clip of the pop star repeatedly singing “Have you ever cried this one?” while people are arrested.

In response, Carpenter has vehemently criticised the use of her song, writing on X that the video is “evil and disgusting”.

She also added, “Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda.”

This isn’t the first time Trump has come under fire from artists angry about him using their song. During his various campaigns, names like Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé, The White Stripes, and the estates of late artists such as Leonard Cohen and Prince are some of the many examples that have spoken out about their songs being used by this administration.

Nor is it the first time that Carpenter has made her feelings about Trump clear. At a show the night after the election, she told her crowd, “I feel so sorry for our country”. Throughout her recent tour, Carpenter has also worked with Head Count to help register thousands of new voters, as well as fundraising for charities in areas that Trump’s administration targets.

The White House has already responses to Carpenter’s criticism. In a lyric-filled statement to The Independent, a spokesperson said, “Here’s a Short ‘n’ Sweet message for Sabrina Carpenter: we won’t apologize for deporting dangerous criminal illegal murderers, rapists, and pedophiles from our country. Anyone who would defend these sick monsters must be stupid, or is it slow?”
