Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell set to star in new comedy ‘Tough Guys’

Hollywood stars Ryan Gosling and Will Ferrell are set to unite for the new comedy-action movie Tough Guys.

In addition to starring in the upcoming movie, the duo are also in talks to serve as producers on the project in development at Amazon MGM Studios.

The script for Tough Guys has already been penned by Daniel Gold, who is best known for writing the hit comedy series Workin’ Moms.

The film’s synopsis reads: “Fed up with being ‘disposable,’ two henchmen break free from the criminal underworld and rewrite the rules as they abandon their ruthless boss and dodge the elite assassin on their trail.”

At this stage, there is no release date attached to Tough Guys and the duo are yet to officially sign on to the project.

Notably, Gosling and Ferrell both appeared in the billion-dollar box-office hit Barbie in 2023, which is their only cinematic collaboration to date.

Additionally, in 2013 and 2016, the duo also teamed up for a pair of sketches called ‘Knife Guys’ that aired on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and showcased the chemistry between them which they will hope to replicate on Tough Guys.

While Gosling has comedy chops, as he exhibited excellently opposite Russell Crowe in the cult classic The Nice Guys, his other upcoming projects, sci-fi movie Project Hail Mary and Star Wars: Starfighter, are more of a serious nature compared with the light-hearted plot of Tough Guys.

Starfighter was officially announced in April, with Gosling confirmed in the lead role. He will portray a heroic uncle fighting to save his nephew against a group of evil forces. Last month, it was announced that Mia Goth would also star in the movie, which is set for a 2027 release.
