Ryan Coogler reveals reason he is making ‘The X-Files’ reboot
Director Ryan Coogler has spoken about his long-awaited reboot of The X-Files and the reason why he is re-making the hit series.
Earlier this year, Coogler, who was first linked to the series in 2023, confirmed that his X-Files reboot is still happening and it’s “immediately next” in his list of upcoming projects.
Now, in a new interview with Variety, which was conducted at a Sinners screening at Hollywood Forever Cemetery last week, Cooger said of his connection to the original series, “Like my relationship with Rocky with my dad, The X-Files is one of those things with my mom.”
The Sinners director continued, “My mom means the world to me – she’s actually here tonight – so this is a big one for me. I want to do right by her and the fans. My mom has read some of the stuff I wrote for it. She’s fired up.”
When it came to casting information regarding the reboot, Coogler kept his cards close to his chest when asked about speculation surrounding Danielle Deadwyler joining the series, stating, “I can neither confirm or deny.”
Coogler also had the same response when asked about the potential returns of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.
Anderson previously gave Coogler her full support for the series during an appearance on This Morning on April 30th, stating, “I spoke to him. What I said was, ‘If anyone were to do it, I think you are the perfect person and best of luck, call me.’ At some point, if the phone rings and it’s good and it feels like the right time, perhaps.”
However, in 2024, The X-Files creator Chris Carter highlighted one particular problem with making the series in the current political climate, claiming, “Everything’s a conspiracy. No one knows what the truth is. It’s completely subjective and relative now.”
There is currently no confirmed date for when The X-Files will enter production.
