Rush’s Geddy Lee releases two solo songs, ‘Gone’ and ‘I Am… You Are’
Rush bassist Geddy Lee has shared to previously unreleased solo songs, ‘Gone’ and ‘I Am… You Are’, as he continues to ramp up press to promote his new memoir, My Effin’ Life.
The two tracks were recorded by Lee in a solo capacity around the time of his 2000 album My Favourite Headache. However, neither of the songs made the cut for the record. They’ve been stored away ever since but are now being released as The Lost Demos.
“I’m excited to see these 2 ‘lost demos’ released,” said Lee in a press release. “I loved the songs when they were written and in some ways they feel as fresh and perhaps more relevant all these years later.”
It was also revealed that the two cuts have since been polished up by the producer David Bottrill – known for his work with the likes of Peter Gabriel, King Crimson and The Smashing Pumpkins – who has mixed and mastered the old demos.
The release further amplifies speculation surrounding whether he will make new music with his former Rush bandmate Alex Lifeson. In a recent interview with CTV Morning Live, Lee commented, “If I say anything about working with Alex, people run to the conclusion that Rush is starting up again.“
Continuing: “That is not the case. Yes, Alex and I like each other a lot, still. We hang around with each other a lot. And we both have a desire to try and write songs together.”
“It’s been eight years since the last Rush gig,” he said, “to start the whole thing up again takes an incredible amount of koyech. Would I do it again? It’s possible. Will I do something else musically? It’s possible.”
