Rush launch limited-edition T-shirt to raise money for Venezuelan earthquake victims

Rush have launched a new limited-edition T-shirt to raise money for victims of the recent Venezuelan earthquakes.

As it stands, at least 2,295 people have been declared dead in the wake of the two earthquakes, which struck on June 24th, and another 11,267 are injured.

It was confirmed by the International Rescue Committee (via ABC News) on July 1st that a further 50,000 people remain unaccounted for in Venezuela.

In a recent tragic update, Major Jorge Montanero, leader of the EQ11 rescue team, said of the ongoing situation, “In the end, we believe the days have already passed and that what we will find now is death,” and conceded, “Unfortunately, things haven’t developed favourably.”

Now, Rush are doing their bit to help those affected by releasing a new T-shirt, which is priced at $40. They have teamed up with the humanitarian charity Hogar Bambi, which was founded in 1996, and provides shelter for orphaned and abandoned children across Venezuela.

David Calcano, a Venezuelan director who has worked with Rush for more than a decade through his studio, Fantoons, is said to have “reached out to the band in the rawest hour, asking for help”.

Instantly, “the band answered the way they always have: without hesitation, with open hands and open hearts, collaborating on this one-of-a-kind shirt that will change lives,” the description for the T-shirt reads.

All profits will go to Hogar Bambi. It is available to pre-order here and will arrive on August 7th.

Earlier this week, it was sadly confirmed that all four members of the Venezuelan nu-metal band Van Der Dijs were among the victims. The group were rehearsing in a building that was situated in La Guaira when the tragedy struck.

Rush are currently on the road for their 50 Something Tour, which is currently travelling across North America.

They recently postponed two shows in Fort Worth, Texas, due to Geddy Lee suffering from laryngitis and bronchitis. In a statement, they shared that “he has been advised that he needs additional time to rest and recover before returning to the stage.”
