Run The Jewels have shared Royal Blood’s thundering remix of ‘The Ground Below’, a track which originally featured on their stunning album RTJ4.
Killer Mike and El-P released the latest instalment from the Run The Jewels story back in June but haven’t slowed down since. They recently released ‘Forever’ featuring Blink-182’s Travis Barker and ‘No Save Point’ which was made for the new video game Cyberpunk 2077. Meanwhile, Royal Blood shared their sophomore album How Did We Get So Dark? in 2017 and first teased their third album in September with the dance-orientated comeback single ‘Trouble’s Coming’.
Now, the two duo’s worlds have collided on ‘The Ground Below’ which sees Royal Blood add an extra bit of oomph to a track which was already loaded to the brim with ferocity. Royal Blood singer Mike Kerr’s searing vocals offer up a spectacular contrast with the delivery of Killer Mike and EL-P throughout the track. The remix turns the volume up to 11 and features a pounding chorus, unlike the album version.
“We’re big fans of each other’s bands,” explains El-P. “A while back, we hung out and played each other songs we love – one of mine was Gang Of Four’s Ether, which I later sampled for ‘The Ground Below’. Mike and I thought it would be cool to get Royal Blood’s take on ‘The Ground Below’ – we sent it off to them and they fucking killed it.”
Royal Blood adds: “Royal Jewels is the ultimate dream come true scenario. It’s an alliance we wish long continues.”
If Run The Jewels and Royal Blood teaming up for this thundering remix of ‘The Ground Below’ doesn’t provide a spring in your step then nothing will. Turn your speakers up to full volume and get stuck in!
