Ruby Rose accuses Katy Perry of sexually assaulting her in Melbourne “almost two decades” ago
Orange is the New Black star Ruby Rose has accused Katy Perry of sexually assaulting her in Melbourne, Australia, “almost two decades” ago.
The actor made the allegations in a series of posts on Threads on April 12th, first responding to a post by Complex sharing Perry’s thoughts on Justin Bieber’s Coachella set, where she said: “Katy Perry sexual[ly] assaulted me at Spice Market nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a shit what she thinks.”
In a series of subsequent replies to other commenters on the post, Rose said the alleged assault happened “almost two decades” ago, in which she accused Perry of seeing her “‘resting’ in my best friend’s lap to avoid her and bent down, pulled her underwear to the side and rubbed her disgusting vagina on my face until my eyes snapped open and I projectile vomited on her.”
Rose said that she had not reported the alleged incident to the police at the time, and that she later told it publicly as a “‘funny little drunk story’ because I didn’t know how else to handle it”.
The actor also claimed that Perry helped her to gain a US visa, hence making her feel that she had to keep it “secret”.
However, in a further comment in the thread, Rose said she had “Just left the police station”. It is not clear at this stage whether any official report has been filed against Perry or not.
Rose added, “She is more than welcome to sue me (she won’t, because it happened, I have photos, and it was literally in public and witnessed by multiple people). Plus, there is so much more that happened in the years leading up to her silly song she won’t want me discussing.”
The actor was referencing a previous argument that she and Perry had on Twitter in 2017, in which she called the latter’s song ‘Swish Swish’ a “sloppy mess”.
Perry’s representative told Variety, “The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies. Ms Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.”
