The modern romance movie Andrew Scott calls “a beautiful love story”

There’s a brilliance at the heart of Irish actors that has been epitomised by the excellence of Andrew Scott. Delivering countless mesmerising performances throughout his career, Scott has established himself as one the brightest talents of his generation, a consideration that shows no signs of stopping.

Best known for his effort in the BBC series Sherlock as the villain Moriarty, Scott has proven his talent for diving deep into the complexity of his characters. In addition, the likes of Fleabag and his work on stage at Hamlet have showcased his profound commitment to the craft of acting.

Romance seems to reside far within Scott, too, as per his remarkable performance in the 2023 romantic drama All Of Us Strangers opposite Paul Mescal. Scott looks to be no stranger to romance itself, though, as he once stated his admiration for one of the 2010s’ best love stories in a feature with A-Frame.

Call Me By Your Name is such a beautiful love story,” Scott said. “It’s so atmospheric, and it’s surprising that film. At the beginning, I was like, ‘What is the dynamic between these two people?’ I love the fact that love manifests itself in so many extraordinary ways. It’s not just two people who look exactly the same as each other and are exactly the same age.”

The actor added, “Sometimes, in talking about love stories, we don’t look at the really surprising love stories, where people just meet each other and connect. They’re not always straight people between the ages of 27 and 32, and then they get married, you know what I mean?”

Call Me by Your Name is Guadagnino’s 2017 film adaptation of the 2007 novel of the same name by Andre Acimen. Timothée Chalamet plays Elio Perlman, a 17-year-old boy who has a romantic relationship with Armie Hammer’s 24-year-old man Oliver in northern Italy in 1983.

As is often the case with Guadagnino’s projects, his 2017 coming-of-age romance is full to the brim with extraordinary cinematography, while the chemistry between Hammer and Chalamet practically bursts out of the screen. It’s a truly beautiful film that has clearly captured the heart of Andrew Scott.

Continuing to express his admiration for Luca Guadagnino’s movie, Scott noted, “Love is for everybody, and there’s something about the rebelliousness of that film that’s so beautiful. It made me nostalgic for something that I never really had, and it satiated something in me.”

“I just thought it was so beautifully acted and beautifully directed,” he signed off. “It was a special one that I remember going to as a full-grown adult.”
