When The Rolling Stones were set to conclude their Steel Wheels tour in Atlantic City nobody could have predicted that Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, John Lee Hooker and Eric Clapton would all make appearances with the iconic band. Now, the group have announced the Steel Wheels concert film.
But the show from The Rolling Stones will go down in history, not because of what happened on stage but the alleged antics that happened off it. The rumours of that night circle around Keith Richards making veiled threats to Donald Trump while holding a glinting knife.
The 1989 concert film sadly doesn’t feature anything to confirm the rumour and instead focuses on what happened on stage. With a star-studded list of guests, the Stones were in imperious form.
Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin joined Jagger and Co. to perform ‘Salt of the Earth’ from the band’s 1968 record Beggars Banquet while Clapton joined in for ‘Little Rooster’, leaving Hooker to perform ‘Boogie Chillen’ with the band.
The film will come in an array of formats including a limited 180gm 4LP coloured vinyl, DVD + 2CD, SD Blu-ray + 2CD and digital.
That said, perhaps one of the best additions is the DVD from their Japan Dome show and Steel Wheels Rare Reels, a CD featuring unusual covers.
The Rolling Stones have also shared a brand new trailer for Steel Wheels – Atlantic City, New Jersey which you can see below. It will be released on September 25th via Eagle Rock Entertainment.
