Roger Taylor wants Queen to tour again: “Never say never”

Queen drummer Roger Taylor has given his green light for the band to tour again.

The legendary rock group, who have been touring with Adam Lambert as their singer since 2012, have been relatively quiet in recent years, last visiting North America for a run of shows in 2023 and also conducting a short tour of Japan in early 2024.

Taylor has used his free time to record his new solo album, A Beautiful World, which is set for release on September 18th, and will also be accompanied by a UK tour.

However, just because the wheels are turning on his solo ventures, it doesn’t mean that Taylor has given up hope that Queen will eventually be revived later down the line.

He recently told BBC Radio 2 (via Blabbermouth), “Well, it is a big machine to gear up, if you know what I mean. But, yeah, really, I think it’s more down to Brian (May) than me. I love playing live. I enjoy it, always have.”

Taylor then again said it was largely down to how May “feels about it”, before giving it his approval, adding, “So if we both wanna do it, I’d be happy to. But we’ll see. Never say never.”

The drummer then praised Lambert, saying, “We have been working for a while with Adam Lambert, who has the most incredible voice.”

Back in January, May ruled out a US tour with Queen due to the ongoing political environment, telling the Daily Mail, “America is a dangerous place at the moment, so you have to take that into account.”

The guitarist also reflected on the band’s relationship with the US, adding, “It’s very sad because I feel like Queen grew up in America and we love it, but it’s not what it was. Everyone is thinking twice about going there at the moment.”

Lambert confirmed last month to Smooth Radio that there was “nothing on the books with Queen” currently, but did add, “We’ve never had the conversation saying we’re done, but there’s nothing actually planned right now. It’s sort of up to them. They’re the boss. I’m the guest.”

While it doesn’t sound optimistic that Queen will return in the near future, May did say last year that Queen were in discussions about a possible residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas.

He told Rolling Stone, “ I’m very keen on the Sphere. It’s got my mind working. I sat there watching the Eagles, thinking, ‘We should do this. The stuff that we could bring to this would be stupendous.’ So, yeah, I would like to do it. We’re having conversations.”
