Queen’s Roger Taylor announces new solo album and UK tour
Queen drummer Roger Taylor has confirmed details of his new solo album, Violence Insane In A Beautiful World.
The forthcoming release is set for release on September 18th. In addition to featuring guest contributions from The Ndlovu Youth Choir, Taylor will also deliver a cover of John Lennon’s ‘Jealous Guy’.
In press materials, Taylor explained how the title was born out of frustration at the current political landscape, stating, “There is a theme, you know, it’s in the title really, what a beautiful world we live in, don’t fuck it up. There seems to be all this insanity at the moment. The violence in the world seems to be as bad as it ever was, at any point, and certainly in my lifetime.”
He added of the current situation, “It’s just horrific, a lot of insane violence. And we do seem to be fucking up the world, plastics in the sea, you know, and all these awful wars everywhere and hatred born of different religions.”
Violence Insane In A Beautiful World has been previewed with the new single, ‘Come On Summer (It’s Party Time’, which is one of the three tracks from the record to feature South Africa’s The Ndlovu Youth Choir.
When discussing the musical themes of Violence Insane In A Beautiful World, Taylor explained, “I like the idea of eclecticism”, noting how The Beatles “were very eclectic, especially the later albums from Revolver onwards.”
He also promised that it includes “surreal stuff” too, which he believes will go down well with fans.
To celebrate the album release, Taylor will embark on a UK tour in September, which will see him visit Newcastle, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Manchester, London and Swansea.
Speaking about the tour, Taylor said, “I mean, do people want to see me live? I would hope some would. I thought I’d put a toe in the water, and so we’re going to do about 6 or 7 dates in the UK. You know, I don’t want to play clubs. I certainly won’t be playing arenas.”
