Rod Stewart reveals health reason behind recent cancellations
After cancelling several dates on his current tour in the United States, Rod Stewart has revealed a Covid-19 infection has caused him to enter isolated recovery. Although the performer has been forced to cancel some performances, he seems to be in a stable state of recovery.
Last week, the ‘Maggie May’ singer cancelled what was set to be his 200th concert in Las Vegas. At the time, he reported a case of strep throat. However, he has now revealed that the sore throat was an early symptom of Covid-19. Amid his positive test for the virus that previously brought the world at a standstill, Stewart has been forced to cancel a further two shows.
The two further affected tour dates were August 9th in Stateline, Nevada, and August 10th in Lincoln, California. The cancelled shows have been rescheduled, and tickets for the original bookings will be valid on the new concerts.
Stewart’s team wrote of his diagnosis and the shows’ postponement in a statement: “We regret to announce that tonight’s Rod Stewart concert in Stateline, NV and his August 10th show in Lincoln, CA have been postponed as the singer recovers from a summer strain of Covid-19.”
Confirming the rescheduled dates for Lake Tahoe, Stateline, and Lincoln, CA, Stewart reassured his fans by announcing an expansive residency in Las Vegas in 2025. “Vegas, I’m having too much fun for this to end, so we are coming back for an encore! Don’t miss The Encore Shows Las Vegas Residency.”
The Las Vegas residency dates will take place at The Colosseum, Caesars Palace from March 12th-22nd May and 29th-June 8th 2025. Tickets are set to go on sale on August 12th at 10am PT (6pm BST).
Last week, before the Covid-19 cancellations, Stewart made the headlines after making some controversial comments about former President Donald Trump. During a show at the Colosseum, Stewart suddenly halted the performance to present a meme on the screen behind him. The image was a Twitter/X post depicting Donald Trump through the years. As the years progress, his skin turns a deeper shade of orange.
Due to his supposed fake tan, Trump has received his fair share of mockery over the past few years. Though such memes are intended for some light-hearted amusement, the political rhetoric is evident. The caption to the social media post behind Stewart referenced Trump’s comments about opponent Harris, where he said he was not aware that she was Black until “all of a sudden, she made a turn and she went… she became a Black person”.
The humorous tweet then captioned a fake response to Trump’s statement: “I didn’t know he was orange until a number of years ago when he happened to turn orange. I respect either one, but he obviously doesn’t, and now he wants to be known as Orange. All of a sudden, he made a turn and became an Orange person. I think someone should look into that.”
