Robert Plant supports Bruce Springsteen amid Donald Trump investigation

Former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant has publicly supported Bruce Springsteen amid Donald Trump’s investigation.

The rock icon spoke at a Saving Grace show at Tampere-talo, Finland, and discussed the ongoing public feud between Springsteen and the US president. He began: “Right now in England, which is where we come from—not quite the land of the ice and snow—Bruce Springsteen is touring right now in the UK.”

He levelled with the audience: “And he’s putting out some really serious stuff. So tune in to him. And let’s all hope that we can be…” After this incomplete sentence, the band launched into a cover of ‘Friends’ by Led Zeppelin.

Springsteen and Trump’s feud began with ‘The Boss’ explaining to a 23,500-strong crowd in Manchester that America “is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous administration.” This initial three-minute anti-Trump speech can be heard on a six-track EP, Land of Hope and Dreams.

Trump responded hotly with a rant of his own on Truth Social, slamming the Born in the USA singer a “dried out ‘prune’ of a rocker” and “a pushy, obnoxious JERK.” He then went on to threaten Springsteen: he “ought to KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country, that’s just “standard fare.” Then we’ll all see how it goes for him!”

Springsteen continued to speak out at his shows; Trump has since escalated the feud by announcing a “major investigation” into whether Springsteen was paid to perform at two rallies for the Democratic Party ahead of last year’s election. He most recently posted a video of Springsteen being hit by a golf ball on social media in recognition of their ongoing battle.

Plant isn’t the first to make his support of Springsteen known. Neil Young also backed his fellow musician, penning an open letter: “Bruce and thousands of musicians think you are ruining America. You worry about that instead of the dyin’ kids in Gaza. That’s your problem. I am not scared of you. Neither are the rest of us.”

Eddie Vedder has also shown public support. First, he covered the Springsteen classic song ‘My City of Ruins’ during the encore of Pearl Jam’s concert. At the next Pearl Jam show, he openly stated his support: “They didn’t debate about any of those issues. All that we heard were personal attacks and threats that nobody else should try to use their microphones or voice in public or they’ll be shut down.”
