Robert Pattinson hits back at ‘The Batman’ body-shamers: “I worked out every fucking day”
Robert Pattinson will soon be returning to our screens as Batman, but he’s still hung up on criticism he received for his superhero physique in Matt Reeves’ 2022 blockbuster, The Batman.
Pattinson will return for The Batman: Part II next year, and he’s back with a vengeance after some fans criticised his body in the first instalment.
“[Everyone was like], ‘You didn’t work out at all.’ I worked out every fucking day,” Pattinson complained in a new interview with GQ.
He added frustratedly, “Even after that, I still look like I didn’t work out. I worked out twice a day at, like, three o’clock in the morning.”
The former Remember Me star throws much of the blame onto past interviews for the tough critiques: “I’m like, it’s just because I said it in an interview [that exercise was uncool]. I was trying to sound cool!”
As a result, the star has now installed a home gym in his Beverly Hills house to train for the sequel, as the shooting schedule begins soon.
However, Pattinson seems to be in the dark about the schedule. He revealed, “And I just heard from the stunt guy the other day. He said, ‘Ooh, 11 weeks of nights.’ I’m like, ‘Excuse me?’ I’m like, ‘No one’s even sent me a schedule’.”
Pattinson’s issues with body standards in the industry stretch as far back as his days in the Twilight franchise, where he starred as cold-blooded vampire Edward Cullen alongside werewolf Jacob Black, played by an often shirtless Taylor Lautner.
As per Glamour, Pattinson confessed in 2011, “I had never been so worried about that before, but after seeing how much Taylor works out for the movies, I thought, ‘Well, everybody is really going to judge me now.’ I always tried to think about positions where I could tense the muscles, and suck in my belly.”
Pattinson fans can see the star in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic, The Odyssey. The Batman Part II is set for release on October 1st, 2027.
