Robert Downey Jr and Marvel hint at more stars joining ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ cast

Following the recent cast announcement for Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, Robert Downey Jr has revealed that more actors are expected to appear in the film, scheduled for release next year.

Directed by brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, both of whom are responsible for previously making Endgame and Infinity War, the film is set to see the return of many beloved Marvel characters, such as Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, and Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier.

The movie is highly anticipated by fans, and now Downey Jr has caused even more excitement by suggesting that other actors who have not yet been announced will appear in the Avengers franchise. Taking to Instagram to comment on a Marvel Studios post about the casting announcement, the actor wrote: “That’s what u call a deep bench of talent… actually it’s more like a row, but an extra long one… That must be it… right?”

In response, Marvel piqued fans’ interest by writing, “There’s always room for more…”

Downey Jr, who is best known for playing Iron Man, will be portraying Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom in the upcoming film. He is reportedly heavily involved in designing the backstory for his character, according to the Russo brothers.

Fans can expect other familiar faces to appear in the film, including Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammar, Simu Lu, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart, Pedro Pascal, Tom Hiddleston, Alan Cumming, Channing Tatum, and Lewis Pullman.

Letitia Wright will be joining the MCU as Shuri, while Vanessa Kirby’s Invisible Woman, and Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch will be appearing in the film following their debuts in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, scheduled for release in July 2025.

Filming for Doomsday is set to get underway shortly in London and is scheduled to wrap in August. The movie is planned for release on May 1st, 2026.
