It was revealed at San Diego’s Comic-Con last summer that Robert Downey Jr will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom for Avengers: Doomsday.

While the plot for Avengers: Doomsday remains firmly under wraps, directors Joe and Anthony Russo recently shared that Downey Jr is heavily involved in the upcoming movie and developing his Doctor Doom character.

Discussing the project with Entertainment Tonight, Joe described the actor as “dialled in”, saying, “He’s writing backstory, costume ideas. We were just on the phone with him this morning before we got here talking about it.”

Commenting on the actor’s enthusiasm, Joe also said Downey Jr “loves really rich three-dimensional characters” and “sees a real opportunity here with the character”.
