Robert De Niro has spoken out for the first time after he was targeted by a string suspicious packages being sent in the post.
The Oscar-winning actor, who has been urging people to vote in the upcoming US midterm elections which take place on November 6th, was one of a number people who were targeted as an explosive device was sent to his office in New York.
Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, former US vice-president Joe Biden and other prominent critics of President Donald Trump have been targeted as up to 10 pipe bombs were sent to prominent Democrats.
De Niro, 75, who has been vocal in his disapproval of Trump, reacted: “I thank God no one’s been hurt, and I thank the brave and resourceful security and law enforcement people for protecting us,” he said.
“There’s something more powerful than bombs, and that’s your vote. People must vote!”
A bomb squad unit removed a package that was addressed to the Hollywood actor at his office after it was intercepted at the mailroom of Tribeca Enterprises in Lower Manhattan.
