Pharrell Williams has hit out at President Donald Trump for playing his seminal hit ‘Happy’ before his rally on the day another notional tragedy happened at the Tree of Life congregation shooting in Pittsburgh.
At The Future Farmers of America rally that Trump was attending in Indiana, just hours after the shooting which took 11 lives in Pittsburgh, Trump and his team thought it appropriate to play Williams’ mega-hit ‘Happy’ as he made his way to the podium. A lack of tact which wasn’t missed by Pharell and his own team.
“On the day of the mass murder of 11 human beings at the hands of a deranged ‘nationalist,’ you played his song ‘Happy’ to a crowd at a political event in Indiana,” wrote Pharrell’s attorney Howard King, as reports The Hollywood Reporter.
“There was nothing ‘happy’ about the tragedy inflicted upon our country on Saturday and no permission was granted for your use of this song for this purpose.”
The letter continued to refuse Trump permission to play his music at rallies or public appearances and in doing so he would be in breach of copyright and trademark laws.
During his speech to the Future Farmers of America, Trump entered to the song “Happy;” joked about cancelling tonight’s rally because he‘s having a bad hair day; and used the anti-Semitic "globalist" dogwhistle hours after a mass shooting at a synagogue.pic.twitter.com/u8ANgnWzzE
