Ringo Starr reveals broccoli is his anti-ageing secret: “Peace and love and broccoli”
Ringo Starr has revealed that he stays young and fresh by consuming lots of broccoli.
The drummer made the confession in a new interview with Rolling Stone, where he appeared ebullient and effervescent as ever in support of his upcoming album, Long Long Road.
As the interviewer remarked on his incredible energy, even at the age of 85, Starr shared his greatest secret: “Well, you’ve got to eat more broccoli.”
Elaborating on his surprise statement, the former Beatle continued, “All the good things about me, I blame broccoli for.”
Starr then added the superfood to his familiar catchphrase, laughing, “So now I say, peace and love and broccoli.”
The comments add to a slew of previous statements Starr has made about his curious diet; famously, he admitted to never having eaten a pizza, or even a curry, back in 2025.
“I’ve never had pizza,” said Starr during an interview, adding, “I’m allergic to several items […] With pizza, you don’t know what you’re putting in it half the time.” This claim was made even more shocking after fans noted that he had been at the heart of a Pizza Hut commercial campaign in 1995.
Starr also refuses to eat dairy products, abstaining from any consumables that come from a cow “because the molecules are so big.”
Starr will also not be plating up his broccoli with any onions or garlic, nor would he be adding it to any Chinese cuisine, as the drummer also refuses to eat either.
Starr isn’t the only legendary musician to have made the headlines recently for his comments on consumables. Recently, Oasis’ Liam Gallagher called out biscuit manufacturer McVitie’s.
“MC VITIES FIG ROLLS aka THE FiGGY ONE the last couple of packets I’ve purchased there’s been biscuits missing 3 in each lane only 2 some times now 1 sort it out there’s a thief on the loose IM SERIOUS,” he wrote on social media. The company are yet to respond to the embarrassing public call-out.
Starr’s next album, Long Long Road, is slated for an April 24th release. As far as we know, he leaves the broccoli praise strictly off the record.
