Ringo Starr cancels all tour dates due to health problems

The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has pulled all of his remaining tour dates with The All-Starr Band for 2024 due to illness.

Starr’s most recent public performance came on September 22nd at the OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino in Niagra Falls, Canada. The setlist saw Starr perform a series of beloved Beatles songs such as ‘Octopus’s Garden’, ‘Yellow Submarine‘ and ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’. He also sang the solo hits, ‘Photograph’ and ‘It Don’t Come Easy’.

The percussionist returned to the road on September 7th when his tour resumed in San Diego. In recent weeks, it has passed by the American cities of Los Angeles, Grand Junction, La Vista, New Lenox, Kettering, Washington, Medford and Uncansville.

However, Starr did still have two tour dates in his schedule before the jaunt was set to conclude, which have now been cancelled due to Starr’s health issues. The All-Starr Band were due to perform at the TD Pavilion at The Mann in Philadelphia on September 24th before ending the run of dates in style at Radio City Music Hall in New York on September 25th.

In a statement, a representative for Starr shared on social media: “Ringo has come down with a cold and after consulting a doctor he was advised to cancel these two remaining shows and get rest.”

The message continued: “As always, Ringo and the All Starrs send peace and love to their fans and hope to see them soon.”

As the shows have been cancelled rather than postponed, those who have bought tickets will receive a refund from their point of purchase.

Is Ringo Starr still recording music?

Outside of touring, Starr has remained busy in recent years by making a series of EPs. His most recent release, Crooked Boy, was shared in April, 2024, and marked Starr’s fifth EP since he began using the format in 2021.

On his latest EP, Starr teamed up with esteemed songwriter Linda Perry. At an event to promote Crooked Boy at Amoeba Records, the drummer said their growing partnership in recent years was born out of his desire “to work with people I hadn’t worked with before [on the EPs], and Linda was one of them.” He then profoundly described her as “the great songwriter.”

He also elaborated on the development of Crooked Boy, stating: “We called her, and I asked her has she got a track, and she said, ‘yeah,’ and then I called her, and she said, ‘yeah’. And then she said, ‘Why don’t you let me do an EP on you?’ And I said, ‘yeah.’ And she’s done a great job.”

Although Starr is yet to announce the release of any further EPs, he’s typically releasing one a year currently, and by this logic, the next instalment is due in 2025.
