Rilo Kiley set to reunite at Just Like Heaven

Rilo Kiley, the indie band fronted by Jenny Lewis, has appeared on a billboard for the upcoming Just Like Heaven festival.

Although the line-up for the one-day event at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles has yet to be officially announced, a billboard has been displayed on Sunset Boulevard, which features this year’s line-up.

Vampire Weekend are set to headline Just Like Heaven. They’ll be joined on the bill by Rilo Kiley, Empire of the Sun, Bloc Party, TV on the Radio, Slowdive, The Drums, Courtney Barnett, Toro y Moi, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and Grouplove.

Just Like Heaven is scheduled to take place on May 10th. It will mark Rilo Kiley’s first live performance since 2008 when they played at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.

In 2011, guitarist Blake Sinnett told Spinner of the band’s split: “I just felt like there was a lot of deception, disloyalty, greed and things I don’t really want to submit myself to. I had related that frustration to music but I just thought, ‘I’m not going to put myself in that position again,’ so I said, ‘Fuck that, I can’t do this anymore.’”

However, four years later, Sinnett reunited with Lewis to perform the Rilo Kiley track, ‘Portions For Foxes’, alongside her at Coachella.

In 2019, Lewis left the door open for a potential reunion with Rilo Kiley, telling NME: “Sure! I did a Postal Service reunion tour a couple of years ago, so I’m open to anything these days. My mantra is ‘Yes’.”

Since those comments, the Covid-19 pandemic scuppered any potential plans while live music ground to a halt, and Lewis also reunited with The Postal Service again for a co-headline tour with Death Cab for Cutie.

Now, it appears Rilo Kiley are officially back. While the Just Like Heaven line-up announcement is yet to be official, it is believed to be the Los Angeles wildfires which have caused organisers to postpone plans to share this information. According to the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner, 24 people have died as a result of the wildfires, 23 people are currently missing and more than 12,000 structures have been destroyed in a 40,000-acre vicinity.
