Rick Wakeman provides health update following brain surgery
Rick Wakeman has revealed that he is recovering from brain surgery he underwent to tackle some recent health issues.
The Yes musician shared positive news of his recovery via his website, revealing that the procedure was done to tackle a neurological disorder diagnosis he received for “normal pressure hydrocephalus.”
Wakeman was hospitalised in September and had corrective shunt brain surgery last week.
He began his heartfelt post, “As many of you may be aware, a few months ago I had to reschedule my American tour because of health issues.”
He continued, “I am pleased to say [the surgery] was very successful and I am now recuperating at home being cared for by my lovely wife and our wonderful furry healing animals!”
Looking towards the future, he added, “I have to take things easy for a while but have been told by my surgeon that I will be perfectly fine to travel to America for the tour with my son Oliver in March and will be fine for all future engagements after that.”
Not forgetting his upcoming shows, he hastened to add, “I will also be fine for the 2 Saving Strays charity concerts in Norwich and Ipswich on December 19th and 20th.”
Moving past the serious matters, the keyboard player added, “I am also pleased to say that it doesn’t seem to have affected my piano playing in any way as I still seem to be very capable of hitting the odd wrong note here and there when I lose my concentration!”
After the charity events next month, the iconic musician will start his US tour in Ridgefield, Connecticut, on March 11st, 2026. He will make stops in locations like New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Illinois.
His son, Oliver Wakeman, will be joining for the tour. “It’s always an honor for me to share the stage with one of my wonderful children,” he said in an official statement, “and for the first time, it’s a thrill to be actually doing a tour with my eldest son Oliver.”
