A week ago Richard Swift, former member of The Shins died in the US city of Tacoma, Washington hospice facility, he was only 41. His family and management have now come together and revealed the cause of his death in a statement on Swift’s social media.
“Yes, Richard Swift suffered from alcohol addiction, and it’s ultimately what took his life,” the post reads. Swift’s family and management also said that the singer-songwriter, was planning to release new music that they “hope to share” in the near future.
Although Swift did seek treatment over the past couple of years, with his GoFundMe page also being widely contributed to, he eventually succumbed to complications from hepatitis, as well as liver and kidney distress likely caused by his addiction to alcohol.
