Rianne Downey has teased her forthcoming debut EP with her bittersweet new single, ‘Do Or Die’.
The Scottish singer-songwriter shared her debut single earlier this year, and since then, the only way has been up for Downey. The social media sensation has once again proved she’s the real deal with her Americana influenced new single, ‘Do Or Die’, which is brimming with old-school cool.
Downey was snapped up by Run On Run Records after building up a hefty following on social media throughout lockdown, thanks to a string of sensational covers. Covering someone else’s work and creating your own are two entirely different beasts, but Downey has comfortably proved she is mightily equipped at songwriting.
Commenting on the track, she said: “Why wait for tomorrow? There’s been times when I have really wanted to do this, but not wanted to fail. At the end of the day, there’s no option but to. ‘Do Or Die’ is about getting to the point of trying. Now is always the right time.”
The breezy new effort is only her third single, and each one captures her improving on the last. Downey is carving out a unique throwback sound that is refreshingly unlike anybody else operating right now, and there’s an unavoidable escapist charm that runs through ‘Do Or Die’.
Her debut EP, Fuel To The Flame, arrives on August 15th and is produced by The Coral’s James Skelly.
