Rhino release exclusive Record Store Day repository

The long-awaited list of exclusive releases for this year’s Record Store Day has dropped, and Rhino are dominating the list.

The American record label has announced an extensive number of releases for Record Store Day, which occurs on April 20th, in independent record stores worldwide. Among their exclusive repository are reissues of classic material by the likes of Captain Beefheart and The Beat, in addition to exclusive and unheard material from groups like The Ramones.

Record Store Day has been running since 2007 and aims to celebrate the importance of local independent record shops. Each year, vinyl lovers gather at their chosen Mecca in order to get their hands on limited and exclusive releases.

The success of Record Store Day coincided with the vinyl revival of the 2010s, which saw a steep rise in the popularity of the musical medium. Record Store Day exclusive releases can become highly sought-after collector’s items following their release, owing to the limited number of copies produced.

Rhino was founded in California in the late 1970s and was initially intended as a novelty record label focusing on reissues. Now owned by Warner Music Group, the label has since grown to be one of the most prominent reissue labels in the world.

Some of the most exciting releases on Rhino’s list this year include a reissue of ‘Interlude’ on gold vinyl. The track was a collaborative effort between gothic icon Siouxsie Sioux and ex-Smiths-frontman Morrissey, originally released in 1994 via EMI.

Elsewhere on Rhino’s release list, the label offers a five-LP box set of grunge pioneers Mudhoney. Focused on their era on Reprise Records, the box set will feature live material, b-sides and previously unheard demos.
