Release date announced for Emma Stone’s next movie

Fresh from the second Academy Award win of her career for ‘Best Actress’, Emma Stone‘s star is shining brighter than ever, and she’s wasting no time in making her return to the big screen.

Having already been announced for the ensemble of Ari Aster’s upcoming dark Western comedy Eddington, the freshly-minted two-time Oscar victor is lining up her next slate of projects at a rapid rate, even if the next one slated to hit cinemas was shot almost two years ago.

While it’s only been three months since Poor Things was released, Stone will be back sooner rather than later, in what’s already shaping up to be another tantalising reunion with director Yorgos Lanthimos.

Anthology comedy Kinds of Kindness was filmed in late 2022, but the Greek filmmaker has been playing the long game and holding back on unveiling it to audiences. However, a release date has been confirmed, and Lanthimos’ next feature is set to arrive on June 21st, 2024.

Plot details are being kept firmly under wraps. However, Lanthimos has previously described it as “a contemporary film” that will see multiple cast members play a part in each segment.

Stone will be joined in the cast by Poor Things co-star and fellow Lanthimos regular Willem Dafoe, in addition to Jesse Plemons, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamadou Athie, and Hunter Schafer.

Since first crossing paths on The Favourite, Stone and Lanthimos have become virtually inseparable, working together on the short film Bleat, the aforementioned four-time Oscar winner Poor Things, and now Kinds of Kindness. Additionally, the remake of Korean sci-fi fantasy, Save the Green Planet, is also in the pipeline.

Continuing the theme of Lanthimos rubbing shoulders with his regular repertory, Kinds of Kindness will also be the first screenplay he’s co-written with Efthimis Filippou since 2017’s The Killing of a Sacred Deer. The writer previously penned Dogtooth and The Lobster alongside his Greek countryman.

Stone and Lanthimos have made cinematic magic together twice already and reaped the adulation and awards season glory that comes with it, while dropping Filippou into the mix for his first feature alongside the dynamic Poor Things duo makes Kinds of Kindness all the more exciting.

Throw in the tantalising prospect of Lanthimos dipping his toes into the water of anthology storytelling, where his actors are encouraged to stretch their wings as multiple different characters, and the signs are looking hugely promising that his next film will live up to the sky-high expectations.
