Rebekah Del, star of ‘Mulholland Drive’, dead at 57
Singer Rebekah Del Rio, known for delivering an iconic vocal performance in the David Lynch film Mulholland Drive, has passed away at the age of 57.
News of the singer’s death was revealed after her nephew, Dan Coronado, posted a tribute to his aunt on social media. According to reports, she had passed away on June 23rd, 2025; however, no cause of death has been revealed at this time.
In the post, Coronado praised his aunt’s work and how grateful he was for her sharing her talents, saying, “Just found out my Tia Becky passed away, and we literally just saw her on Father’s Day. So grateful the kids got to hear her sing, and also that I didn’t listen to her and secretly recorded the moment.”
Best known for delivering a Spanish performance of the Roy Orbison song ‘Crying’ in the David Lynch classic, Del Rio continued to perform following her iconic performance, recording a different version of the tune with Il Divo in 2011.
Coronado also referenced her iconic performance in his tribute, saying, “Her most famous song is titled ‘Llorando’ which is named after Roy Orbison’s song ‘Crying’ which I’m doing right now as I type this out. Thank you for sharing your beautiful gift with the world Tia. We love you.”
Despite using a pre-recorded track for the final version of Lynch’s film, Del Rio insisted on singing live whenever she was on set. Knowing that she would get a genuine reaction from both the cast and the audience, Del Rio found it important to keep singing throughout the shoot, saying, “I felt I had to produce that same feeling with the vibrato in my throat so the audience could see it.”
While her stunning performance in 2001 remains her most famous song, she would go on to work on various Lynch projects throughout the years, eventually recording Lynch’s ‘No Stars’ for the revival series, Twin Peaks: The Return. She also lent her voice to her movies over the years, such as the soundtrack to Man on Fire and Sin City.
Though details around her death are scarce, Del Rio also experienced many health hardships during the final years of her life. In addition to losing her son in 2009, she had gone through a botched health operation in recent years that made her unable to climb the stairs of her home.
