A rare version of The Beatles’ song ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’ has surfaced online.
The surviving members of the band are preparing to celebrate the impending release of their expanded version of the iconic White Album as part of the record’s 50th anniversary. The release comes fitted with a host of unreleased material along with an astounding 27 acoustic demos recorded in their early days.
From those recordings, Apple Corps Ltd has released a rare and previously unheard version of ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’. On it, George Harrison can be heard playing the guitar and singing the lines: “I look from the wings at the play you are staging / As I’m sitting here doing nothing but ageing,” which were eventually scrapped from the song.
With Harrison on guitar and Paul McCartney on harmonium, the version was originally recorded on July 25th, 1968.
