Canadian rapper Jon James McMurray has died following a disastrous wing-walking stunt.
The 34-year-old had trained heavily for the act which involved rapping while walking across the wing of the plane. However, the pilot of the plane experienced some difficulties and it resulted in the rapper plummeting to the ground.
“He had trained intensely for this stunt but as Jon got further out onto the wing of the plane, it caused the small Cessna to go into a downward spiral that the pilot couldn’t correct,” a statement read.
“Jon held onto the wing until it was too late, and by the time he let go, he didn’t have time to pull his chute.”
James died upon impact.
The statement confirming the news also included an online fundraiser set up in an attempt to raise money for funeral costs and to release James’s new music.
“He planned for everything,” childhood friend Rory Wayne Bushfield told the Star. “It should have been straightforward. It’s one of those things. We’re not really sure what happened.”
