Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood says band will take “busking attitude” to upcoming tour
Earlier this week, Radiohead revealed that they will embark on a 20-date tour of the United Kingdom and Europe in 2025. Now, Colin Greenwood has shut down new music rumours and revealed what they might include on the setlist.
The set of upcoming shows marks their first series of concerts since 2018. They will play a series of shows in Madrid, Bologna, London, Copenhagen, and Berlin. Greenwood, who plays bass in the iconic band, recently spoke on the Adam Buxton Podcast about their live undertaking.
When asked if they have any songs in mind for the huge shows, Greenwood replied, “Oh, I think it’s going to be a mix set. I think we’ve like whittled it down to about 70 songs. And me and my brother are not on the setlist committee, we’re not allowed, because we’re too indecisive.” Colin references his brother, Jonny Greenwood, here, who plays guitar in the band.
He added, “So we’ll play anything in any order, at any time. We sort of take a busking attitude to the Radiohead setlist.”
Radiohead have an impressive career that began with their 1993 album Pablo Honey. Their last studio offering was 2016’s A Moon Shaped Pool. Greenwood revealed that it might all come up across the shows. He added, “It’s going to be the first time I think we’ve done shows where we haven’t got new material to play as work in progress. But you never know, some stuff might come up or not or whatever, so.”
However, the conversation was recorded in April, so it is possible that the Oxfordshire band may have changed their approach. Though Greenwood has shut down any new music rumours, he is still allowing space for new sparks of creativity to naturally occur.
When announcing the tour, the band’s Philip Selway said: “Last year, we got together to rehearse, just for the hell of it. After a seven year pause, it felt really good to play the songs again and reconnect with a musical identity that has become lodged deep inside all five of us.”
He continued: “It also made us want to play some shows together, so we hope you can make it to one of the upcoming dates. For now, it will just be these ones but who knows where this will all lead.”
