Radiohead have “not even talked” about a new album, Ed O’Brien claims

Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien has got bad news for any fans who are expecting a new album from the band anytime soon.

It has now been a decade since they released their last album, 2016’s A Moon Shaped Pool, and while they returned to the live arena after eight years away in 2025, there’s no album yet in the pipeline.

O’Brien, who recently released his new solo album Blue Morpho, told NME in a new interview, “People want to hear another Radiohead record. I can’t even imagine it because we’ve not even talked about another record.”

He then stated that the unenjoyable process of making A Moon Shaped Pool is why Radiohead have been reluctant to return to the studio.

The guitarist shared, “I think that’s because the last record was so fucking awful to make! The tale of that record is so fucking dark. It casts a long shadow.”

Looking ahead to the future, O’Brien added, “Maybe ask me in six years time!”

Similarly, in February, Jonny Greenwood also poured scorn on the idea that a new album from Radiohead was on the way, saying, “I have no idea,” when asked if it was likely.

Greenwood added, “I mean, I’m surprised that the tour actually happened and that we all enjoyed it so much. But venues get booked so far in advance. To do another, we would have to decide now, and even then it wouldn’t happen for 18 months.”

Nevertheless, while a new album shouldn’t be expected anytime soon, O’Brien previously let slip that they do plan to play live again in 2027 and re-create their recent European tour on other continents.

O’Brien shared in March, “What we’re going to do is, every year we’re going to do a different continent, and we’re going to do 20 shows each year. No more, no less.”

Before he next reunites with Radiohead, O’Brien has his own solo tour to deal with in October, which will include a date at the Barbican in London.

In a three-and-a-half-star review, Far Out wrote of O’Brien’s new solo album, “For someone who has so often been referred to as the secret weapon in his band, but without it always being possible for less invested listeners to put a finger on why, Blue Morpho expertly demonstrates everything that O’Brien has always been able to offer in abundance.”
