Quick-fire Questions: 10 minutes with About Faces
DIY ways are swinging back into fashion by virtue of the crippled current music industry. However, you don’t often come across the truly old-school tactic of distributing demos to the masses outside of an established gig. This made it delightfully refreshing to see About Faces plugging their stuff amid the exodus of a National concert.
It was even more refreshing when this endearing introduction was backed by fitting results. About Faces have a lilting, friendly sound, showcased on their new single ‘Cinematic and Chrome’. But perhaps the highlight to date is what they’re achieving with that sound connectively. “We built this band with the idea of having a community at its core,” they say.
“We’re grateful to be able to connect with so many different people: lyrically, sonically, and especially at our live shows. The fabric of life has been sewn with hope and promise, and we thank you for that,” they concluded. If starting an indie band isn’t about that, then what the hell is it about? That vibrancy rings out in their sound. Love them or loathe them; you can’t help but purvey their invigorated energy.
With that notion of getting to know someone new and having some fun in mind, we flung some quick-fire questions to the band. Thankfully, they all took it upon themselves to answer, which adds an extra dimension to things: take up the challenge and see who brings what to the band, who’s the daft lad and who’s the tour manager.
