Ahmir ‘Questlove’ Thompson confirms live action ‘The Aristocats’ isn’t happening
Director and musician, Ahmir ‘Questlove’ Thompson, has confirmed that Disney have decided to scrap his live-action adaptation of the classic film The Aristocats.
Questove confirmed that he was working on the adaptation back in 2023. He confirmed the film would be a live-action hybrid, and he would oversee the music for the film as well as production duties.
Questlove admitted on an appearance on Score: The Podcast that he was excited about potentially working on the live-action adaptation of The Aristocats, but due to problems with Disney and its streaming service, he felt it was best to step away from the movie. “I would have loved to have done that project, but there’s like 20 others that I can get to.”
The Summer of Soul director said there had been a few reshuffles at Disney, and things were becoming complicated. “[It was] the third time in which a new administration came in,” he confirmed, which made him feel, “Maybe this isn’t meant for me.”
Questlove did confirm that despite not working on the live-action remake, he did have four projects lined up which will take him five years to complete.
“What I don’t do is I don’t make announcements until it’s ready,” he said, “But there’s literally four other films. I’ll be working til 2029-2030. So, [it] just wasn’t meant to happen. Maybe it will happen in the future.”
Disney still has a plethora of live-action films in the pipeline, with Moana, Bambi and Cruella 2.
This is a developing story.
