Quentin Tarantino and Slyvester Stallone reportedly set to team up for new gangster series

As Quentin Tarantino continues to put off his long-awaited final movie, it’s been reported that he’s teaming up with Sylvester Stallone for a black-and-white gangster series.

According to TMZ, the pair will fuse their creative minds on the series, which is set to include gangsters, showgirls, boxing, and music.

No further plot details have been announced, but the show is being described as a six-part limited series. As well as being set in the 1930s, it will reportedly use 1930s cameras to capture the ambience.

Allegedly, Stallone will not be involved as an actor on set. The reports suggest that he is only involved for directorial purposes.

The move to television might be a shock to some fans, but Tarantino had been teasing this work as far back as 2022. During his Cinema Speculation tour, the director suggested that he was working on an eight-episode limited series for a streaming platform.

This project likely bears some resemblance to what he was referring to in 2022.

Tarantino and Stallone have long been connected. Stallone has turned down two roles offered up by the Kill Bill director, in the 2007 picture Death Proof and the 1997 film Jackie Brown.

Stallone has directed nine features in his career, including four Rocky movies. Famously, Tarantino is a huge fan of the 1976 classic Rocky, which he credited as a key inspiration for his subsequent career in the film industry.

Tarantino has also praised Stallone’s directorial debut, Paradise Alley, deeming it “the purest expression of a particular vision” in his book, Cinema Speculation.

Tarantino also recently announced a West End play, The Popinjay Cavelier. Set in 1830s Europe, The Popinjay Cavalier promises to be “a rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise inspired by the grand swashbuckling epics of stage and screen.” It will arrive on stage in early 2027.

As for Stallone, the actor is actively executive producing and starring in the Paramount+ crime series, Tulsa King.
