Pulp to play two exclusive live shows for BBC
Sheffield icons Pulp have been confirmed to play two exclusive live shows for BBC Radio and BBC 6 Music, respectively.
The band is currently on the comeback trail ahead of the release of their first album in 24 years, More, which comes out on June 6th. At the end of May, they will play two live shows for both radio stations.
The 6 Music Session: Pulp Live will be broadcast on Nick Grimshaw’s show on May 29th, alongside an interview with the band. Additionally, the band will play for an intimate audience at the BBC Radio Theatre on May 7th.
This performance will then be broadcast on Jo Whiley’s Radio 2 show on May 29th, with the DJ saying: “I have been a fan of Pulp for as long as I have been presenting on the radio, and it’s a joy to still be following their hugely successful career all these years later.”
Speaking of both the exclusive events, frontman Jarvis Cocker added: “We are really looking forward to this. From my time at 6 Music, I remember that the BBC Radio Theatre is a very intimate venue. As long as we can fit all our equipment in there it’s going to be great to play some songs for Radio 2 and 6 Music.”
Both performances will be available to watch afterwards. The 6 Music gig will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer for 30 days from May 29th, and the Radio 2 concert will be broadcast on BBC Two in June before also heading to iPlayer.
Pulp premiered their first single from the new album, ‘Spike Island’ on Lauren Laverne’s 6 Music show on April 10th. In a five-star review of the single, Far Out wrote: “Throughout all of Pulp’s releases spanning decades, that energy that buzzed through everything is more than intact as the band return with their first new music since 2001, and it’s a track that could rival any anthem that came before.”
