Aretha Franklin and Ellen Reid awarded Pulitzer Prizes for music
The 2019 Pulitzer Prize winners have been announced with Aretha Franklin and Ellen Reid being awarded for their contributions to music.
Acclaimed composer and sound artist Ellen Reid has claimed the Pulitzer Prize for Music, an honour which comes in recognition of her work on the opera p r i s m.
The Pulitzer Prize said the opera is a “bold new operatic work that uses sophisticated vocal writing and striking instrumental timbres to confront difficult subject matter: the effects of sexual and emotional abuse.”
One year after Kendrick Lamar became the first rapper to win a Pulitzer Prize for his album DAMN, Aretha Franklin has been honour for “her indelible contribution to American music and culture for more than five decades” with the “Special Citation” award.
The 2019 Pulitzer Prize winners in 14 journalism and seven letters, drama and music categories were announced on Monday, April 15th.
