Prince’s ‘long-lost’ Blue Angel Cloud guitar is going up for auction

Julien’s Auction announced earlier this month that its annual ‘Music Icons’ collection would include an opportunity for Prince’s diehard fans to get their hands on some valuable merchandise — a genuine Prince guitar.

Now, since the item has be reappraised, the value has shot up after investigators discovered the guitar was the ‘long-lost’ Blue Angel Cloud guitar the Purple One favoured between 1984 and 1993.

After being given the once over by Paisley Park conservationist and an expert in Cloud guitars John Woodland, it was confirmed to be the iconic guitar, the second Cloud guitar Prince ever had commissioned.

Known affectionately as the Blue Angel, Julien’s Auction had the instrument put under a CT scan to confirm that it was indeed the legendary axe.

The guitar is known to be one of Prince’s favourites and accompanied him on some of his most iconic tours including ‘Sign o’ the Times’ and ‘Purple Rain’ tours.

“It’s the most significant Prince guitar that’ll ever come up for auction,” said Julien’s Auctions founder and president Darren Julien. The piece was originally expected to fetch over $100,000 but now the auctioneers expect it to achieve five times that amount.
