Post Malone and Eddie Vedder duet on Pearl Jam and Tom Petty songs
Post Malone and Eddie Vedder came together on February 18th to take on songs by Tom Petty and Pearl Jam tracks during a charity concert in Tennessee.
Both playing acoustic guitars, the singers took to the stage at Nearest Green Distillery in Shelbyville, Tennessee. They were on the lineup for an event called Reportin’ For Duty, a tribute to the actor and comedian Leslie Jordan, who passed away in 2022.
The show was raising money for the EB Research Party, which Vedder founded alongside his wife. It helps to fund research on Epidermolysis Bullosa, a rare skin disease that their son has had since birth.
While Post Malone is more associated with rap than with rock, he’s a genre blender who combines the worlds of R&B, pop and hip-hop in his own work. Furthermore, he’s been announced as one of the collaborators on Taylor Swift’s upcoming album and recently team up with new country music favourite Noah Kahan. Malone also even previously discussed a project with Bob Dylan that never came to fruition.
On stage in Tennessee, Malone joined forces with the frontman for ‘I Won’t Back Down’ from Tom Petty’s 1989 album Full Moon Fever, alongside ‘Better Man’ from Vedder’s own band, Pearl Jam.
On ‘Better Man’, from the band’s 1994 album Vitalogy, Post Malone is seen taking over the reins of the vocals while Vedder translates the full band breakdown into nothing but an acoustic guitar. For the Tom Petty track, their voices merge together for perfect impromptu harmonies.
Vedder is about to get very busy as Pearl Jam announced their return. They recently revealed that their 12th album, Dark Matter, will be released on April 19th.
In a statement, the singe rsaid of making the new record during a three-week period at Shangri-La Studios in Malibu: “I’m getting chills, because I have good memories. We’re still looking for ways to communicate. We’re at this time in our lives when you could do it or you could not do it, but we still care about putting something out there that is meaningful and we hopefully think is our best work. No hyperbole, I think this is our best work.”
Following the release, the band are setting off on a huge world tour around Europe, Australia, North America and the UK.
