Porridge Radio have shared their enraged Christmas anthem ‘The Last Time I Saw You (O Christmas)’.
The Brighton band’s miserable Christmas song is a bittersweet banger and feels like the most appropriate way to round up 2020. Porridge Radio’s brand of sadness soaked indie rock has proved to be the perfect soundtrack to get through these relentless days spent cooped up indoors. Now, with ‘The Last Time I Saw You (O Christmas)’, Porridge Radio have got their own angsty Christmas song and it couldn’t be anymore on-brand.
“It’s a song about having a miserable time every Christmas and the same cycles of heartbreak and depression endlessly repeating themselves,” vocalist Dana Margolin said of the new track in a statement, adding: “We had a lot of fun with it – enjoy.”
Porridge Radio released their second album Every Bad back in March and the response to their sophomore record has seen them be hailed as one of the few saving graces in an otherwise dreary year. The record also found itself deservedly included in the list of nominees for the acclaimed Mercury Prize and it took a while to sink in for the group.
“I don’t think any of us really thought we would be. We didn’t think it through in any way,” Margolin told the Daily Star in September. “My manager phoned me up when I was driving to Brighton. I was on the M25 and he was like ‘OK I’ve got some news for you. You can’t tell anybody. You’ve been shortlisted for the Mercury but you can’t tell anyone for a week’. I was like ‘OK cool’, I didn’t know what to do with that information. It’s really nice.”
Get your angst on and listen to ‘The Last Time I Saw You (O Christmas)’.
