Placebo announce 30th anniversary plans, including huge tour and ‘Placebo Re:Created’
Placebo have confirmed details of a huge arena tour across the UK and Europe to celebrate their 30th anniversary.
Additionally, they will be releasing Placebo RE:CREATED, which sees the iconic band rework the 1996 debut album that put them on the map.
The celebratory album is set to be released on June 19th, 2026, via Elevator Lady Ltd through AWAL, just two days after the 30th anniversary of Placebo.
According to press materials, Placebo RE:CREATED “features reworked and embellished versions of all ten tracks from the original album plus two bonus tracks from the original release”.
In a statement, Placebo explained why they felt compelled to go back to this material for Placebo RE:CREATED, sharing, “We think of this record as a director’s cut. We haven’t recreated it from scratch. We went back to the original master tapes and brought 30 years of playing these songs live back into the record.”
They added of their ambitions, “This project was about finally finishing the record, dragging it into the 21st century sonically, while preserving the integrity and the spirit of the original. It’s not about improving it, there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s about completing it.”
However, Placebo conceded that they were too green when they originally made the album to successfully execute their ideas in the studio, adding, “When we made the first album, we didn’t yet have the experience or the studio knowledge to fully translate what was in our heads. Over the years, the songs took on a life of their own on stage; they grew, they developed, they kind of completed themselves.”
They poignantly concluded, “It’s a celebration of where we began, and a meeting point between who we were then and who we are now. It’s a way of honouring that innocence, while letting the songs exist with the scale, confidence, and energy of the band we’ve become.”
Additionally, Placebo have confirmed plans to bring Placebo RE:CREATED to the road for a European arena tour later this year, which will also see them play songs from their second album Without You I’m Nothing.
It will begin in Porto on September 28th and see them trek through the continent, including dates in Germany, France, Spain, Luxembourg, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and the Netherlands.
Their UK and Ireland leg of the tour will commence on November 28th in Nottingham, followed by dates in Glasgow, Dublin, Manchester, London and Cardiff.
