Pixies reveal departure of bassist Paz Lenchantin and announce replacement
Pixies have announced the departure of longtime bassist Paz Lenchantin, who has been replaced by Emma Richardson.
Lenchantin first joined the iconic group in 2014 after Kim Shattuck left the band. During her decade-long tenure with Pixies, Lenchantin contributed to three albums with Pixies, Head Carrier, Beneath the Eyrie, and Doggerel, the latter of which came in 2022.
In a statement, Pixies stated: “Lenchantin has exited the band to concentrate on her own projects. We are grateful for Paz’s contributions, and wish her all the best going forward.”
They continued: “We are delighted to welcome Emma Richardson on bass. Emma will make her worldwide touring debut with Pixies on the first night of the ‘Bossanova x Trompe Le Monde’ European tour, beginning this Friday in Dublin.”
Pixies signed off their message by stating: “See you on the road! La la love you, Pixies”. As of writing, Lenchantin is yet to publicly address her exit.
Outside of working with Pixies, Lenchantin has performed live with acts including Silver Jews, Entrance and A Perfect Circle. Additionally, she has played on records by Queens of the Stone Age and Jenny Lewis.
Meanwhile, Richardson rose to prominence as a member of Band of Skulls before leaving in 2022 after five albums. In the same year as her departure, she also collaborated with frontman Russell Marsden on Marsden & Richardson, which they released as a duo.
Pixies’ upcoming European tour will see them perform three shows at the Olympia in Dublin, the Albert Hall in Manchester and London’s Kentish Town Forum. The group will return this summer for festival dates, including Victorious in Portsmouth and All Points East in London.
