Phoebe Bridgers and Courtney Barnett have linked up for an incredible acoustic cover of the 2001 Gillian Welch track ‘Everything Is Free’.
The pair performed the song live for Newport Folk Festival’s virtual event on Sunday titled Folk on Revival Weekend — an occasion which also featured the likes of Roger Waters, Jason Isbell, Mavis Staples, Ben Harper and many others.
The duet took place via live stream, which showed Bridgers and Barnett performing from the other side of the world from one another with the pair being based in Los Angeles and Melbourne respectively.
Barnett recently revealed she has been working on new music, telling Zan Rowe on Double J: “I’ve been working on these songs since the last album came out, I guess”.
Detailing further, Barnett explained that the material is more mellow in comparison to past work: “A lot of them are these soft, folk songs that are written in hotel rooms,” she said. “You can tell, they’re timid and quiet.”
