Peter Hook announces 50-year retrospective gig in Manchester

Peter Hook has announced he is set to perform a special 50-year retrospective concert looking back over his career in Manchester next year.

The Joy Division bassist took to his social media on December 2nd to announce the news, after previously teasing fans that an announcement was on the way.

Hook explained that the occasion had been planned as it marked “50 years on from the Sex Pistols show that inspired me to become a musician.”

As such, he and his band The Light will perform a special one-off evening at the Manchester Academy on June 4th, 2026, with hits from across the back catalogues of his entire career including “Warsaw, Joy Division, New Order, Revenge, Monaco, Freebass and more.”

At the show, Hook will also be joined by special guests The Buzzcocks, who emerged alongside Joy Division initially at the height of the punk movement back in 1976.

Despite his celebrations of his own career, it comes as Hook criticised his former New Order bandmates earlier this year and admitted there was still “animosity” within the group following his departure back in 2007.

Speaking of their new bassist Tom Chapman, he claimed the band’s versions of their classic hits now sound “like some weird, bad cover version of a New Order track.”

However, putting this aside, Hook has also planned his 50th anniversary gig in line with his heroes the Sex Pistols, who are embarking on a UK tour to celebrate the same punk milestone next summer.

Tickets for Peter Hook and the Light’s 50-year retrospective gig go on sale from December 5th at 10am local time via the Manchester  Academy website.
