Pete Townshend says The Who will discuss “what happens next”

The Who leader and guitarist, Pete Townshend, has revealed that he and the band’s frontman, Roger Daltrey, will discuss the future of the band soon.

This comes after the classic rock outfit finished their final orchestral tour date at Sandringham Estate this summer. The guitarist has said that he wants to meet with Daltrey as “it feels like the end of an era.”

Townshend’s comments come in a new interview with Record Collector. He told the publication: “I think it’s time for Roger and I to go to lunch and have a chat about what happens next. Because Sandringham shouldn’t feel like the end of anything, but it feels like the end of an era.”

Townshend continued: “It’s a question of, really, what is feasible, what would be lucrative, what would be fun? So, I wrote to Roger and said, come on, let’s have a chat and see what’s there.”

In other The Who news, it was recently announced that the group’s rock opera, Tommy, will return to Broadway in 2024. Notably, the show premiered in 1993 and is based on the British band’s 1969 album of the same name. The new version will see Tommy’s original director, Des McAnuff, take the helm.

He said: “The Who’s Tommy for a new generation who, possibly more than any other, has a broad appetite for all kinds of music and storytelling.”

Meanwhile, Townshend recently confirmed plans to adapt his 2019 novel The Age of Anxiety into a rock opera.
