Pete Doherty confirms “there’s talk of another album” with The Libertines
In an exclusive interview with Far Out, Pete Doherty has provided an update on The Libertines, revealing “there’s talk of another album”.
Doherty is currently on the road with Babyshambles for their first UK tour in more than a decade, but The Libertines remain in the picture and are set to play a series of festival dates next summer.
Last year, The Libertines topped the UK charts for the first time with their fourth album, All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade, and while there are no concrete plans to get back in the studio immediately, it is a topic of conversation between the band.
Earlier this week, it was confirmed they would appear at Y Not and Truck in 2026, with Doherty telling Far Out about the band’s current status, “There’s always going to be festivals here and there with The Libs. We’ll see what happens.”
Doherty then revealed, “There’s talk of another album. I’m trying to get them to sign to Strap Originals, but I don’t think Carl’s having it.”
He also shared that following the expiry of their deal with Virgin EMI after All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade, they currently don’t have a label, which is why he’s ambitiously dreaming of signing them to his own label.
However, Doherty said he’d be “astounded” if his bandmates let him be their boss, and shared they also have a “decent offer” on the table from an unnamed record label for album number five.

For now, Doherty is focused on Babyshambles. Their UK tour has upcoming stops in cities including Cardiff, Liverpool and Manchester this week, before travelling through the country ahead of the final date at Koko in London on December 15th.
While speaking to Far Out, Doherty also opened up about the loss of former Babyshambles guitarist Patrick Walden, who died in June aged 46 and was supposed to be part of the tour.
“He was supposed to be here,” Doherty painfully shared. “That’s why we did it, you know, because Pat, in particular, was in a bad way, and he needed a few pennies, and that’s why we were gonna do it, and then he died.”
Doherty also remembered the immense talent of Walden, adding, “All those songs from Down in Albion, nobody can play them like Pat. He had a very distinctive guitar style.” He added, “It’s heartbreaking.”
