Pedro Pascal names the fiercest movie character of all time
Having starred in a string of hard-hitting, violent, and often gruesome projects in multiple genres across film and television, such as Game of Thrones, Narcos, The Great Wall, The Mandalorian, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Wonder Woman 1984, and The Last of Us, Pedro Pascal knows a thing or two about working both alongside and on the opposite side to some fierce characters.
However, it wasn’t the hulking Gregor Clegane, the notorious Pablo Escobar, the ravenous Tao Tei, the scheming Moff Gideon, the butter-wouldn’t-melt Poppy Adams, the superpowered Diana Prince, the unstoppably determined Ellie, or even post-apocalyptic mutants the Clickers, Stalkers, or Bloaters that the actor named as “one of the fiercest” characters of all time. Instead, Pascal opted for Uma Thurman’s Beatrix Kiddo, who embarked on a roaring rampage of revenge across Quentin Tarantino’s blood-soaked Kill Bill duology.
During a Reddit AMA, the actor was quizzed on who his favourite superhero is and why. Instead of offering a straightforward answer, the figurehead of the small screen Star Wars universe apologised for completely ignoring the entirety of comic book history to focus his attention on a protagonist who was essentially a superhero in everything but name.
Putting The Bride at the head of the pack, Pascal explained why he’d opted to place Uma Thurman’s jumpsuit-clad warrior and her relentless thirst for retribution as his number one choice. He said: “Sorry for not picking an ACTUAL superhero, but one of my favorite characters that was a superhero to me was Beatrix Kiddo in the Kill Bill movies, played by Uma Thurman in the Kill Bill Movies 1 & 2. For me, she is one of the fiercest movie characters of all time.”
Pascal’s assessment is hard to argue with. Beatrix’s insatiable drive to reclaim the life that was stolen from her at the hands of David Carradine’s Bill involved no shortage of ferocity; with each member of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad placed squarely in her crosshairs, she moved up the chain of command to position herself against her former boss and the father of her child at the epic conclusion of volume two. In fact, much like a superhero, The Bride also operates under a codename and has an instantly recognisable and iconic costume, not to mention her penchant for dropping a pithy one-liner as she dispatches her latest target.
Even when the subject turned back to figures rooted in comic book history, Pascal still couldn’t plump for a costumed crimefighter. Foreshadowing his eventual casting in the Wonder Woman sequel as a suit-clad businessman with a nefarious agenda, he admitted that “I always end up liking the villains more” before noting that “in the case of Gene Hackman, I could watch his portrayal of Lex Luthor on repeat”.
If Lex Luthor had The Bride in his employ, then perhaps even Superman wouldn’t stand a chance. Either way, Pascal would be desperate to discover the outcome.
