Pearl Jam cancel huge London concert due to health reasons

Pearl Jam have announced that the concert they were due to perform on June 29th at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London has been cancelled due to health reasons.

In a statement posted on social media, the band wrote that the decision to “regrettably” cancel has been made “due to illness in the band” but reassures fans that this move was “the last thing” they wanted to do knowing that “so many of you made travel plans based on the tour schedule.”

They added: “There was simply no other option based on our current health and also having to avoid further damage. We couldn’t be more disappointed to not play one of our favorite cities this tour. Despite best efforts, rescheduling was not possible at this time due to existing schedule commitments.”

Concluding: “We are deeply grateful for your support and sincerely apologize to the incredible Pearl Jam community for the inconvenience and disappointment.”

The band is currently on an extensive tour following the release of their twelfth studio album, Dark Matter. Recent dates include Dublin and Manchester, and they are due to travel to Berlin following the two London dates. It remains unforeseen whether more dates will be effected.

During their show at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 18th, frontman Eddie Vedder took aim at Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker over recent sexist comments made by the NFL athlete.

Speaking at the 2024 Benedictine College, Butker claimed women should be “most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world” and labelled Pride month “a deadly sin”. He added: “IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for degenerate cultural values in media, all stem from the pervasiveness of disorder.”

In response, Vedder condemned his comments, saying: “The singer, Jessica, and the keyboard player, Patti, they must not have believed that diabolical lie that women should take pride in taking a back seat to their man.”

He added: “There should be pride in homemaking if you’re a man or a woman … it’s one of the hardest jobs and you should definitely take pride in it, but you’re going to benefit by giving up your dreams? I couldn’t understand the logic, so I’m questioning it in public right now … It’s not a graduation speech.”

Following the cancellation of the recent show in London, the band confirmed that all tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase. No rescheduling has been confirmed yet.
